Sutherland has exhibited in more than 150 shows and he has won many awards.
Sutherland also appeared on Public Television:  "Painting on location in Paris and Provence".
He has done commissions for many corporate and private patrons, including a panorama of Stamford Harbor for Arthur Anderson & Co.
In 1990 he created a mural for Riviera de Largo Restaurant, in Oxford, Connecticut.
