A resident of Stamford, Connecticut and an Art teacher, Sutherland is best known for his delicate and vivid watercolors of landscapes and flowers. His work evokes the essence of New England's light and forms. Each composition is a careful study executed by a contemplative man. His most recent field trips led him to France where he painted Monet's gardens at Giverny.

In his early career, Sutherland was a commercial artist. "I worked with a lot of exciting and talented people," he remarked "but it was always in the back of my mind that I wanted to paint and teach full time. I did not want to be old and blind before I had my chance with the morning light."

Fifteen years ago, he left the corporate field and devoted his life solely to painting.

Sutherland's work has been exhibited in more than 150 shows and he has won many awards. He is a founding member of the Stamford Art Association, an associate member of the American Watercolor Society and Greenwich Art Society among others.
